Pronto is one of the most beautiful floors available in Australia. Call into VCS and see for yourself. This is a standout floor for people looking to improve their homes with genuine high-grade oak flooring. Why is this the case? This is the case because many products available in Australia incorporate many knots and marks in the face of the flooring. Pronto is a high specification floor. The amazing thing is that this is such a good floor and very well priced.
It is available for an excellent price point. Pronto, unlike a number of oak floors, is very good value for money.
190mm wide boards look beautiful.
The best way to make a stable engineered floor is to use a plywood base. All solid timber naturally tends to curl if it isn’t balanced with a very stable backing. Plywood is particularly stable and reliable. Plywood is stronger than solid wood components due to its purpose layered design. Plywood is better than solid timber in terms of many characteristics. It is more resistant to dry weather. Products made with plywood don’t change shape easily. After years of testing, plywood is the proven product globally.
This is a really important subject. When you visit the various showrooms you will see a number of different approaches to the question of construction. We are so impressed with this particular flooring approach used in the high-grade oak Pronto floors that we want to explain why it is so important. Some of the finest fit outs in timber floors that we have seen recently have used this high spec Pronto floor and when you see it you really understand why it’s good to go for a higher spec finish for a higher grade to the face of the timber. Some of the finest fit outs in timber floors that we have seen recently have used this high spec Pronto floor and when you see it you really understand why it’s good to go for a higher spec finish for a higher grade to the face of the timber. The choice to use an ABC grade is extremely important. ABC means that you get the very best of the select grade timber you also have a little bit of the prime grade mixed in which adds character. But face it if you getting a timber floor you want people to realise it’s real and not just vinyl so you need some character. The whole point of having a timber floor is to introduce the character of the timber into the setting.
Timber And Water
In some ways timber may be referred to as a sponge. A sponge will take on a considerable quantity of moisture however timber differs because while the sponge increases in mass it generally does not increase in size; timber on the other hand does not only increase in mass but also increases in size as the cells take on moisture. A piece of timber may swell dramatically when introduced to a significant volume of moisture. The analogy of the sponge is a good one however because timber will readily take on moisture just as a sponge does.
Timber therefore is a dynamic product and must be treated with respect.
In fact, timber that is brought into contact with moisture has the potential to move in five different ways. These are cupping, reverse cupping, expanding, twisting & splitting. In addition where moisture is removed in a dry atmosphere the timber has the potential to shrink, twist & split.
In the drying stage timber generally shrinks substantially; twice as much parallel to the growth rings as it does radially i.e. across the growth rings. This can cause major distortion in the shape of the timber.
Back-sawn boards move differently to quarter sawn boards. Back-sawn boards cup away from the heart while quarter-sawn boards move more in thickness than width therefore giving an appearance of greater stability. While quarter sawn timber is generally more stable it lacks the attractive appearance of back-sawn timber.
It may be seen then that timber in its natural state is in a constant state of dynamic movement and this is an important factor in timber flooring.
Successful Timber Flooring
Using a face board with a plywood core just avoids so many potential issues. In fact plywood has become a key construction product in timber flooring.
