The Bona 150mm Edger – Brighten Up The Work

One of the most important machines when sanding timber is the edge sander. These machines are very well designed and apply just the right amount of cutting power to get the edges of floors sanded level. These machines are not designed to cut over the entire disc on the base of the machine, but towards the front and to the right of the sanding disc when looking from above in use.

As a result, this makes it possible to use a sweeping action and get a very nice sanding action that works nicely and lines up well with the area of the floor that has been sanded with the belt sander.

Over the years, a number of these machines have been very heavy and very boxy, and as a result, people have found them hard to use. Even today, some floor sanders will complain that they are using a machine that constantly needs adjustment and that cut less than evenly or isn’t as easy to use as it could be.

The edgers that we are hiring out at VCS overcome these issues.

First of all, the ergonomic design makes it much easier to use than the big heavy edge sanders that came before. Secondly, the incorporation of a 150mm diameter Velcro backed disc means that it’s a universal disc that most people use already. This means you’re not having to buy some special sort of abrasives to use with the machine apart from the appropriate sanding grits.

The other really important thing that is often overlooked in the sanding process is how brightly lit the area is. Often when you are working low to the ground with an edge sander, the one thing that you really need is more light to see exactly what you are doing to see whether you’re putting any scratches into the floor. This is the first edger we have used equipped with a row of LED lights, which light the work as well as this.

We were pleasantly surprised with the machine from three different perspectives.

Firstly, we liked the way the machine fits in the hand and handles.

Secondly, we love the ratio of power to disc because the machine makes sanding quite easy.

And again, thirdly, we just love the addition of the light strip on the front of the machine. This light strip on the front of the machine makes sanding work just so good as you have much better vision and can see what is being achieved.

We are delighted to be able to put some of these edge sanders into our high range. Infact, we now have four of these edgers in our hire range, and as time goes on, we will probably enlarge this group because the machines are so good.
