One approach to fixing this is to use coloured decking products. Oftentimes in petroleum-based oils this requires the use of iron oxide pigment which colours the floor to a reddish-brown. This looks good in the short term but the oil must be reapplied on average twice per year to achieve and maintain a good-looking deck. Some products have been developed that have lasted longer but have proven difficult to recoat in time due to peeling sections of coating. Many people reject these coats because they obscure the face of the timber.
Happily Osmo oils are not prone to peeling and cracking and therefore these have become increasingly the choice of discerning home owners.
Osmo oil provide a range of oiled finishes specifically designed to protect decks. The oil formulation itself is particularly good at feeding timber with appropriate materials to protect and work with the natural properties of wood. Within the Osmo decking oil range we have several virtually clear formulations which provide protection for decks including the Osmo anti-slip decking oil which is of particular importance as it provides a high level of slip resistance, something that is incredibly important when walking on a deck that has recently been wet. Osmo 006 is a particularly popular decking oil because it balances the appropriate amount of pigment without appearing to be a painted surface thereby revealing the beautiful nature of the timber. 006 is often over coated with Osmo anti-slip decking oil thereby providing an extremely good-looking and practical coating. Whatever your project involving decking you should consider the extent to which the deck is exposed to direct sunlight. Only when you consider this important factor is it easy to determine which coating you should use on your deck. We are very happy to provide assistance and welcome discussion.
Please contact us to learn more about these products. Coverage rate calculation is 20 to 24 m² per litre. The coverage is less than the coverage for an internal floor because the gaps between decking boards need to be coated and there will be some loss of product during application.
